  • Tranquillity Bay Pinot Gris 2008 NZD $12.95

The Best you'll find for the price

I've had so many customers say, "I haven't had a Pinot Gris this good for ages - and it's $12.95?" Under its normal label this sells very well at $19.95. A dry, fruit driven style, especially suitable to have with food, the wine has an aromatic nose with pear and stone fruit aromas leading to a touch of spice and a honeyed fruit-driven palate with generous mouthfeel and a soft smooth finish. This powers out of the shop by the dozen, and everyone comes back for more.
  • Kuratau River Pinot Grigio 2008

    Silver Medal Winner

I instantly fell in love with this. The initial fruit sweetness was quite a pleasant surprise and first thought that a glass or two will be enough, but the bottle soon disappeared! Like the best wines of Italy, this Grigio shows rich fruit tones, floral aromas and tropical palate weight. The long slow growing season found in Taupo protects the delicate aromatic components of Pinot Grigio. Melon flavours also linger on the palate mixed with lush sweet tropical fruits. Very impressive!
  • Spy Valley Envoy Pinot Gris 2008 NZD $26.95

    Flying out by the dozen

This has become even more popular than their standard Pinot Gris at $20. Juicy, pure fruit characters carry on from the nose. Light, crisp and refreshing, the palate is very accessible now but will reveal its more complex side with maturity.
  • Whitehaven Marlborough Pinot Gris 2008 NZD $25.00 $19.95 NZD $18.95

    Double Gold Pinot Gris

This wine is made by Simon Waghorn, perhaps better known as winemaker for Astrolabe, and he has again come up trumps with one of the best-rated pinot gris from the 2008 vintage. This is a full-flavoured, off-dry style that is elegant and flavoursome. Normal retail is around $25 so this is a top buy.

  • Lonestone Marlborough Pinot Gris 2009 NZD $17.95

    Simply Outstanding

In a sea of disappointing pinot gris, many of which use sugar to mask a lack of fruit, this is a little gem. Negociants Steve Bennett and Matthew Deller taste literally dozens of wines before selecting which to put under their Lonestone label. Soft, flavoursome, fresh and dry this is a top pinot gris that puts many at $30 or above to shame. Outstanding. Drinking beautifully but will hold well for another 2-3 years.
