  • Stafford Rd Chardonnay 2008 NZD $21.95
  • All That Jazz Marlborough Chardonnay NZD $22.95
Music, art and wine are all aspects of our lives that are very subjective. There is no doubting however that life is enriched by all three. From the free expression of an artist, the creative harmony of the musician and the way a wine can be the canvas to express its origin. The wines are made by Mike Eaton from Terravin Wines in Marlborough who wants to quench both the soul and ones thirst.

Aromas of soft ripe peaches, pears and some nutty complexity from aging in oak. A subtle hint of spice and honey makes the wine has a lovely softness that finishes on the palate with a lingering finish.
  • Corazon Chardonnay 2010 NZD $23.95
The fruit for this wine is sourced from Kumeu in West Auckland where, by tasting this wine you will certainly agree the quality of the wines from this part of the country have improved immensely. Very full flavours of ripe stone fruit and butterscotch with vanilla. Rich and clean and will continue to improve in the bottle for another 2-3 years.

  • Black Estate Chardonnay 2010 NZD $29.95
90/100 from Bob Campbell who writes "Rich and creamy Chardonnay with a mix of peach/nectarine and citrus plus nut, mealy savoury characters. Intense and complex Chardonnay with power.
  • Clearview Reserve Chardonnay 2009 NZD $37.95
Picked from 20 year old vines and some of the newer plantings from Clearview's Te Awanga vineyards. 10 different soil types in the vineyard, 6 different picking times, 5 different barrel makers all contribute to the complexity of this iconic wine.

The balance of fruit, acid oak and flavours is impeccable, whilst maintaining the trademark power. The result is a rounded and integrated wine with a luscious creamy texture. Beautifully ripe tropical and stone-fruit characters and a back bone of toasty oak integrated with acid means that this wine will cellar well for many years.

Hand harvested at 24-25 Brix, 40% of the grapes were given 6-10 hours skin contact, the rest were whole bunch pressed before the free run juice was fermented in 50% new oak of which 95% was French and 5% American. 4 different types of yeast were used including some wild ferments. The wine was aged for 11 months with weekly stirring of the lees using 5 different barrel makers. Bottled in February 2008.

  • Vie di Romans Chardonnay 2005 NZD $54.95

    World Class Chardonnay from Italy

Vie di Romans has a fourty hectare vineyard planted in chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot grigio and a number of local varieties. They have very successfully married traditional winemaking with a state-of-the-art facility.

This chardonnay is a fabulous wine, with an almost perfect combination of old world depth and complexity and new world fruit. Fully barrel fermented and having undergone 100% malolactic fermentation this is a powerful wine that is still very young (the winery itself suggests a cellaring time of 8 - 15 years). I could wax on about the rich medley of flavours, but the most remarkable thing is the length. It's a wine you certainly can't drink very fast. It's in a different league to any New World chardonnay I've tried and $57.95 is a veritable bargain for the experience it provides.

  • Clearview Endeavour Chardonnay 2007 1.5ltr NZD $249.00
Just the third release of Clearview's ultra premium, limited edition Chardonnay. With quality rather than demand determining when The Endeavour will be made, winemaker Tim Turvey said a release could be a one in 15yr event.

Endeavour was made using exceptional hand-picked fruit, from their oldest Mendoza vines. The free-run juice was run directly to barrel without clarification. The juice underwent fermentation with it’s own naturally occurring wild yeasts. Regular lees stirring protected the wine through its first winter then natural malo-lactic fermentation took place in the spring as temperatures warmed up. The wine spent in total 2½ years in New Grand Cru French oak.

Endeavour was made with minimal intervention and natural deposits may form. It is a pure expression of the Te Awanga terroir, made from vines grafted, planted and tended for 24 years. It is absolutely unique!

The wine is boxed and presented in a red cloth bag which honours the first item traded by Captain James Cook at Cape Kidnappers, Te Awanga with local Maori on his discovery visit in 1769. This will drink well in 2012 but it has the pedigree to last to 2015 and beyond. Enjoy with crayfish or a rich seafood dish and sauce. Extremely limited.
