  • Discovery Point Fleur 2009 NZD $17.95
Blending of different grape varieties has of course been common in red wine making and is starting to gain as much interest in the white varieties. Once you try this you will understand why. It just makes sense!

This is an outstanding blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer which is rich, dry and aromatic with the Riesling providing structure, the Pinot Gris richness and body and the Gewürztraminer intense floral aromas. Everyone who has tried this comes back for more. Great on its own or with seafood, white meats and Asian cuisine.

  • Artisan Late Harvest Riesling 2008 - 375ml NZD $19.95
Astounding value here for a dessert wine of this quality. A fruit driven wine from Marlborough with hints of botrytis influence. The initial sweet entry is well balanced with crisp acidity and a refreshingly dry finish. It is just 12% alcohol and is best served lightly chilled. The wine is succulent but not cloying with excessive residual sugar. The perfect complement to cheese, pate’ and fruit platters. It's light and fresh with lots of appealing fruity characters.

  • Discovery Point Marlborough Dry Riesling 2009 NZD $19.95

Marlborough Dry Riesling That Really Is Dry

It is always a struggle to find a quality NZ riesling that is truly dry yet still displays quality fruit. This wine, from a single vineyard in Marlborough, is a superb example. It is quite rich, with lovely fruit flavours, yet is fully dry. A great food wine and with cellaring potential.

A bright, forward Riesling that will be an attractive aperitif wine over the next 3-4 years.

  • Kairos Wild Ferment Waipara Dry Riesling 2010 NZD $24.95
If everyone made Riesling like this, it would certainly revive the category. From Master of Wine, Steve Bennett MW, this new release must be regarded as one of New Zealand’s greatest dry Rieslings. From low yielding fruit grown on an exceptional gravelly single vineyard in Waipara, hand harvested then very gently pressed, resulting in impressive delicacy and finesse.
Long, slow fermention with natural indigenous yeasts, followed by lees ageing adds to the complexity, richness and depth of this wine, almost unparalleled in the world of kiwi Riesling. Big, bold characterful wine, this concentrated and complex dry Riesling is extremely seductive. Very classy with layers of ripe citrus, honey and spice.

  • Fattoria Mancini Impero Blanc de Pinot Noir 2005 NZD $59.95
Pinot Noir was introduced to the coast of Pesaro by the French administration during the Napoleonic Empire. The soil of calcareous sandstone and the cool microclimate along this elevated section of Italy’s Adriatic coast, were considered to be ideal for the cultivation of this variety. From 1861, for five generations of winegrowers, the Mancini family have preserved and reproduced the original clones, on the best terrains of Natural Park of Monte San Bartolo. Among these hills, the area of Focara in particular has distinguished itself over the years for the production of Pinot Noir with a strong personality and with the typical character of this grape variety.

The Impero wine, ‘Empire’ in Italian, is the culmination of a long history of the white vinification of Pinot Noir. This wine is produced by softly pressing whole bunches with the utmost care and attention to minimise skin contact and colour extraction. It is then barrel fermented and aged in barrel for 12 months. This is an impressive and distinctive wine, showing spice from the wood and bright red apple/peach aromas. It has a broad structure in the mouth, not unlike a Côte de Nuits white – balanced and positive, with a herbal freshness. Worth every cent and more.
