Armantes Old Bush Vine Rosé 2008
NZD $16.95
A Rosé For Wine Drinkers
At last - a serious rose that tastes like wine, not lolly water. Fully dry, with delicious, weighty fruit flavours, this is an intensely complex wine from a small, ancient block of vines in a forgotten (until recently) corner of Spain.
Rosé has always been a bit of an also-ran (unless it's rose Champagne of course which is an entirely different story), but this wine is a real eye-opener that will delight even the most hardened rose cynic. When you look at how this wine is made you will see why. It comes from garnacha vines that are more than fifty years old on a single slope vineyard in Catalayud, Northern Spain. Catalayud was until very recently an overlooked corner of Spain. However it has never been hit by the phylloxera bug which devastated most of the European vineyards in the 1800s. The old vines and very low yields give wines that are very intensely flavoured.
This is a superbly complex wine that will go well with virtually any meal. Serve only lightly chilled to bring out its complex flavours.

Corazon Rose 2009
NZD $17.95
Summer in a bottle
2008 SOLD OUT, sorry. This is my favourite wine at the moment - just the perfect wine for summer. The most appealing thing about this wine is that it is made from Syrah, which makes it more complex and flavoursome than most other Rose's which are made from Pinot Noir. I've had a lot of comments from people that this is one of the best they've had. - Okahu Chambourcin 2007 NZD $27.95

Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2005
NZD $29.95
Wow, wow and wow!
Where has this been hiding? This is how Australian reds used to be all those years ago. Full and complex with soft tannins, all sorts of flavours going on all over the place. Petit Verdot is like lots of different grape varieties all in one - fruity but not jammy. Deep purple in colour with lifted sweet black cherry and delicate violet and floral notes. The palate displays complex fruit with lingering soft ripe tannins well balanced with American oak. Outstanding with lamb and cold roasted vegetable salad. A masterpiece and a very memorable wine. -
Moncaino de Mancuso Grenache 2005 - only 2 dozen left
NZD $39.95
Truly brilliant.
Any fan of Australian red at this price level just has to try this as a comparison. I guarantee an amazing experience with this wine. We're very, very lucky to get our hands on this. Only 20 dozen bottles available to NZ this year, so I insist you get in and try this fast - everyone is going to be after it.
This is a tiny new producer, focused purely on crafting wines of the highest quality from ancient Grenache vines. They are without doubt one of the most exciting Spanish Bodegas to emerge in the past five years. It is truly amazing that the wine made here only makes less than half a bottle per vine.
Unsurprisingly, Robert Parker has now discovered the wines of Mancuso, giving the 2005 Mancuso 96/100 and presenting it as one of the great Grenache wines of the world at his Grand Grenache tasting in November. He describes the 2005 Mancuso as follows...
“It offers up a superb bouquet of toasty new oak, pencil lead, scorched earth, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Opulent, rich, and complex on the palate, this full-bodied wine has tonnes of flavour, nicely concealed ripe tannin, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Cellar it for 6-8 years and drink it from 2016 to 2030.”
