  • Luna Argenta Prosecco NV NZD $21.95
100% Prosecco Light and elegant, this is a perfect aperitif or match for south east Asian cuisine. Tiny bubbles and aromas of delicate flowers, bee pollen with a whiff of berries. Crisp with plenty of flavours of nectarine and apple peel flavours, honeysuckle and citrus. Lovely acidity and a creamy honey and mineral flavoured finish.
  • Vega Barcelona Cava NZD $22.95
Cava, a sparking wine which is made in exactly the same way as Champagne, has fully established its identity in markets abroad in the last thirty years yet specialized bodegas - or Cava houses - have been producing on a commercial scale since the end of the 19th century. Cava’s name derives from the Spanish word for an underground cellar. Today Cava is second only to Champagne in world sales of sparkling wine.A medium dry style that is clean and fresh which, sorry to say, beats the pants off most New Zealand sparklings. You will find that the bottles contents will disappear very quickly...
  • Breaksea Sound Central Otago Pinot Noir 2008 NZD $23.95 NZD $19.95
Breaksea not "Break the Bank" At a recent tasting of Central Otago pinot noir this wine stunned us for its quality and value, beating many at much higher prices. Sourced from a single vineyard with grape yields less than half most pinot noirs (which makes a lot less wine but which gives added concentration) this is a rich, savoury wine with real complexity and character. If you are a Central Otago pinot noir fan you must try this. Drinking well now and over the next couple of years.
  • Marotti Campi Salmariano Verdicchio dei Castelli Di Jesi Classico Riserva 2003 NZD $24.95 NZD $22.95
Intensely Flavoured Dry White from the Marches Marotti Campi vineyard is based in the vicinity of Morro D'Alba , an ancient village in the Marches region , north of Ancona. Grapes have been grown here for centuries, in the centre of the DOC areas of Lacrima di Morro D'Alba and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi .The Marotti Campi family has owned land here since the 19th century. They have approximately 54 hectares of vines surrounding the family villa consisting of 23 hectares of Lacrima, 23 of Vedicchio and 8 of "international" varietals. All the grapes are harvested by hand. To emphasize their link to the land their wines are named after old XI century sites. Salmariano is named after the XI century castrum ( castle) built at the boundary of the company's vineyard. The grapes are harvested late for maximum ripeness and aged partly in small oak barriques for 12 months. This is a superb example of the verdicchio grape at its best.It is a bold, nutty dry white with hints of butterscotch and oak. A very exciting wine.
  • Chateau de Fontenille 2006 NZD $24.95
Sauvignon blanc-based white from Bordeaux This wine comes from a small family vineyard in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. A blend of 80% sauvignon blanc, 10% semillon and 10% muscadelle, it is a full bodied dry white with beautifully clean fruit flavours. Weightier than a New Zealand sauvignon - a very good match with foods such as fish and lighter white meat dishes.
  • Wood Park Viognier 2008 NZD $24.95
    5 Star Quality
  • Wood Park Kneebones Gap Shiraz 2005 NZD $24.95
  • Corazon Hawkes Bay Syrah 2008 NZD $24.95
  • Spy Valley Envoy Pinot Gris 2008 NZD $26.95
Flying out by the dozenThis has become even more popular than their standard Pinot Gris at $20. Juicy, pure fruit characters carry on from the nose. Light, crisp and refreshing, the palate is very accessible now but will reveal its more complex side with maturity.
  • Okahu Chambourcin 2007 NZD $27.95
  • Pierpaolo Pecorari Sauvignon 2005 NZD $28.95
Sauvignon Blanc at its Finest What a world away from New Zealand sauvignon blanc this is. For a start, pretty well all NZ sauvignons at 4 years of age will be well past their best, if not having fallen apart comepletely. This wine is fresh and alive, weighty, fruit driven, powerful wine with none of the grassy, acidic overtones characteristic of NZ sauvignon. In fact it is much more like a French sauvignon (particularly Sancerre), albeit perhaps a little fruitier than would be typical. All in all, a superb wine and, comparing it to its French counterparts again, very well priced at $28.95. It will continue to live for some time yet, developing some lovely honeyed/butterscotch characters over the next couple of years.
  • Johannesof Gewurztraminer 2008 NZD $29.95
This has to be one of New Zealand's most highly awarded Gewurztraminers. Luscious medium style with perfumed aroma and flavour of roses, Turkish delight and lychees. Perfect with Asian spicy food and tasty cheeses. Drink now or until 2014.
  • Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2005 NZD $29.95
Wow, wow and wow!Where has this been hiding? This is how Australian reds used to be all those years ago. Full and complex with soft tannins, all sorts of flavours going on all over the place. Petit Verdot is like lots of different grape varieties all in one - fruity but not jammy. Deep purple in colour with lifted sweet black cherry and delicate violet and floral notes. The palate displays complex fruit with lingering soft ripe tannins well balanced with American oak. Outstanding with lamb and cold roasted vegetable salad. A masterpiece and a very memorable wine.
  • Kuehn Gewurztraminer 2005 NZD $29.95
Classic Style from Alsace A delicious gewurztraminer from Alsace that demonstrates the style beautifully. The Kuehn family has been producing their own wine since 1675 and this, their house style, represents very good value. Intensely spicy, with firm acidity and a dry finish, this is lovely drinking now and over the next 3-4 years.
  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2004 NZD $29.95
  • Willows Barossa Shiraz 2005 NZD $33.95 $29.95
Gold Medal New Zealand International Wine Show. If you think Grant Burge, Elderton, Penfolds or the like are one of the best when it comes to your favourite Barossa Shiraz, then this wine is certainly for you. White chocolate, blackberries, cassis, peppery, full-bodied, dense, fruit forward and beautifully complex. I've had many people say this was their pick for red wine of the year in 2009. Dozens and dozens of this were sold with many taking two or three cases. Drinking very well now but make sure you decant this for a good hour to make the flavours really open up. One of the best you'll see from the Barossa.
