Billyrock Shiraz is Back - still just $10.95
Hi The Saturday tastings are proving to be a real hit. I had the Waimarie Chardonnay open again last week, and it's now by far my biggest selling wine. The Champagne Cattier Blanc de Noirs at $89.95 was just amazing. 5 Star Quality. I'll let you know when I'm going to open it again if you missed out. I've been trapped in the office for two days, surrounded by a pallet of Billyrock Shiraz. I've got two options - I can either drink my way out, or sell my way out. I'm going to try the latter option first. There's never been such a demand for a Shiraz like the Billyrock. Wine Spectator rated this 89/100 which is almost unheard of for any wine at $10.99. The Limited Release Selection wines are only made in years where the fruit is exceptional - and this wine is. From South East Australia, this wine stuck out in a lineup of over 20 wines - most of the others were twice the price. Lots of fruit without being too heavy. A beautiful, seamless softness on the palate and a finish that lasts and lasts. You'll be back for more. I guarantee it. Billyrock Station Ltd Release Shiraz 2006 - $10.95ea Waimarie Gisborne Chardonnay 2008 - Half Price! This has been open for tasting for a couple of Saturdays now, and has been rocketing out and everyone's coming back for more which is the ultimate endorsement for a great value wine. "Great for the price! We need to get some more!" says one customer. I've had people at me for literally years to get this Chardonnay back from Nick and Steve Nobilo at Waimarie. The distinctive style of their Gisborne Chardonnay has seduced even the 'Anything But Chardonnay' crowd. Remember the old style of 'creamy, buttery, lightly oaky'? Tasting every Saturday until I've sold out. You'll not get a wine of this quality for the price, I guarantee it. This is normally $30. Remember, if you grab a dozen or four and you don't agree, please let me know, as I will happily take it back - I'll want it for myself! Bob Campbell says ... "Soft, peachy wine in a typical Gisborne style but given added appeal with a seasoning of classy oak. Attractive easy-drinking Chardonnay that's ready to be enjoyed within a year or two (at $28)." Waimarie Gisborne Chardonnay - $14.95ea La Cantina and Champagne Cattier review in March Metro Magazine Pick up the latest copy of Metro where Paul Tudor, Master of Wine, writes a very good article singing the praises of independent wine shops around Auckland, including La Cantina. He also gives the Cattier Brut NV the following review... "A rich, creamy bubbly with bready, toasty characters tempered by brisk acidity. Outstanding value and with a dedicated new importer, stocks are guaranteed to be fresh." If you haven't tried it yet, please do come in this Saturday and see what you think for yourself. Champagne Cattier Premier Cru Brut NV - $54.95ea Rojo Granrojo Garnacha 2008 Mentioned along side Cattier in Metro Magazine was this great value red. Paul Tudor says "If you enjoy fruity Otago Pinots this modern Spanish red is for you. With currant and plum and flavours of pastille and fruit jube and ripe, juicy tannins. Uncomplicated, forward, yet punchy at a sharp price." Rojo Granrojo Garnacha 2008 - $12.95ea Discovery Point Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Also reviewed by Paul Tudor. "With the benefits of low cropping and a goood vintage, this concentrated wine has vibrant passionfruit and cut-grass aromas, a weighty, intense mid-palate, and a zippy, fresh, finish."
